Representatives Holmes and Nageak were absent and their presence was noted later. The invocation was offered by the Chaplain, Dave Stancliff. Representative Edgmon and Dave Stancliff performed the song, "My Lady Alaska." Representative P. Wilson moved and asked unanimous consent that the invocation be spread on the journal. There being no objection, it was so ordered. Let us pray, As we open this day as servants of the public, may we all appreciate the freedoms and privileges we enjoy in our beloved Alaska. While differences and opinions sometimes divide us, as we deliberate may we more fully appreciate this incredible place on earth we all call home. For it is here among the coastlines, towering peaks, and glaciered valleys that we have all chosen to spend our lives and expend our precious personal energies. It is here on a sunlit day or aurora-filled night that it truly does not matter where we are from, how old or young we might be, or what political philosophy we may choose to support. 2014-04-16 House Journal Page 2470 May our Alaska shimmering with God's beauty and powerful grandeur never cease to enthrall us. May her enduring spirit and endless mystery serve to remind us that beyond her mountains and dancing northern lights, a force far more consequential than our daily endeavors more perfectly governs and inspires us to sing in unison. Amen. "My Lady Alaska" (by Dave Stancliff, 1974) Alaska, Alaska, a lady wild and free, You're still a mystery to me. You've shaken and wakened all eternity, You defy what men want you to be. Refrain: Heartless and cold for those who take a chance, Even for a gambler she's a dangerous romance. Alaska, Alaska, you call my every hand, Bluffing isn't part of your plan. You forsake me, and make me play by all your rules, Alaska, you're nobody's fool. (Refrain) Alaska, you've sold me, and hold me in your hand, Like a lady that's captured her man. Alaska, Alaska, a lady wild and free, You're still a mystery to me. You'll always be a mystery to me …. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Representative Hawker. CERTIFICATION OF THE JOURNAL Representative Pruitt moved and asked unanimous consent that the thth journal for the 84 and 85 legislative days be approved as certified by the Chief Clerk.
