And to those observing Ridvan or Passover, may your festivities, observances, and rituals be blessed! Let us pray. Our Sure Foundation, I invite Your presence with us on th the 149 anniversary of Charles D. Jones’ birthday, who faithfully served pre-World War I as a member of the st House in Alaska’s 1Territorial Legislature, and again post-World War II as a member of the Senate. Light of the World, with our increased daylight, may these servant leaders have some time today on National Arbor Day to enjoy the Tongass National Forest, possibly even hiking to the cabin named after John Muir, who said “everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in, where nature may heal and give strength to body and soul alike.” 2024-04-26 Senate Journal Page 2316 Lord of the Sabbath, knowing everybody’s working for the weekend, help this team continue to put their heads together, use their different perspectives to spark creativity, and then get some well-deserved rest! Under the terms of the bill, certain agriculture and timber businesses would be exempt from state and local income, property, and sales taxes for a period of 10 years. Alaska has a vested interest in ensuring a robust agricultural and timber economy. To support that economy, this bill would exempt agriculture and timber businesses that produce at least $25,000 per year in agriculture or timber products from local property tax assessments, city and borough sales taxes, and state corporate income tax for 10 years. The implementation of this tax exemption will promote the growth of new and existing businesses in the State. I urge your prompt and favorable action on this measure.
