Full Journal pdf2024-01-29 Senate Journal Page 1453 SENATE JOURNAL ALASKA STATE LEGISLATURE THIRTY-THIRD LEGISLATURE SECOND SESSION Juneau, Alaska Monday January 29, 2024 Fourteenth Day Pursuant to adjournment the Senate was called to order by President Stevens at 11:00 a.m. The roll showed sixteen members present. Senators Bishop, Claman, Kawasaki, Wielechowski were absent. The prayer was offered by the Chaplain, Pastor Kermit Wilson, Safe Harbor Church. Senator Hoffman moved and asked unanimous consent the prayer be spread. Without objection, it was so ordered. Heavenly Father, Thank you for the blessings of rest and opportunity to serve the people of Alaska. I ask that you to grant protection, provision, and guidance for our fellow Alaskans. God bless the work of our leaders during this second session of this 33rd Legislature. There are many important needs to address and decisions to be made. As we process these considerations remind us to carefully listen to understand, to consider other's perspectives, to speak in clarity, and to work wisely. Grant new insight and partnership. I pray that our work is meaningful, our disposition respectable, and our thinking is mindful. May the time given in the Legislature strengthen Alaska and her people. Without objection, it was so ordered. Senator Giessel moved and asked unanimous consent Senator Bishop be excused from a call of the Senate today through February 4. Without objection, Senator Bishop was excused. Senator Giessel moved and asked unanimous consent Senators Claman, Kawasaki, Wielechowski be excused from a call of the Senate today. Introduction and Reference of Senate Bills SB 214 SENATE BILL NO. 214 BY SENATOR MYERS, entitled: "An Act relating to the tabulation of ballots; and requiring the division of elections to provide unofficial election results before the results of an election are certified." was read the first time and referred to the State Affairs and Judiciary Committees. Consideration of the Calendar Third Reading of Senate Bills SB 88 CS FOR SENATE BILL NO. 88(FIN) "An Act relating to the Public Employees' Retirement System of Alaska and the teachers' retirement system; providing certain employees an opportunity to choose between the defined benefit and defined contribution plans of the Public Employees' Retirement System of Alaska and the teachers' retirement system; and providing for an effective date" was read the third time. 2024-01-29 Senate Journal Page 1455 President Stevens stated CS FOR SENATE BILL NO. 88(FIN) would be held in third reading to the next calendar. HB 104 Senator Hughes moved and asked unanimous consent to be shown as a cross sponsor on CS FOR HOUSE BILL NO. 104(RES) am "An Act relating to salvage sales of timber, negotiated timber sales for local manufacture of wood products, and expedited timber sales; and providing for an effective date." Without objection, it was so ordered. Recess President Stevens stated the Senate would stand in recess to the Joint Session.
