Senators Coghill, Kookesh, Stedman, Thomas were excused from a call of the Senate. Senators Olson, Wagoner were absent. The prayer was offered by the Chaplain, Reverend Sarah Schurr of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Juneau and Fairbanks. Senator Menard moved and asked unanimous consent that the prayer be spread. Without objection, it was so ordered. History has so many fine teachers for us and it is good to call on their wisdom. May we be inspired today by the words of the great Boston preacher and abolitionist, Rev. Theodore Parker when he said, "I do not pretend to understand the moral universe; the arc is a long one, my eye reaches but little ways; I cannot calculate the curve and complete the figure by the experience of sight; I can divine it by conscience. And from what I see I am sure it bends towards justice." Theodore Parker's words still call to us today. May we all do our part, as servant leaders of the people, to help the arc of the universe bend toward justice and create a better world for everyone. May we help create a world of justice, a world of compassion, and a world of love. Amen. 2011-03-01 Senate Journal Page 0412 Senator Dyson led the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance.
