The prayer was offered by the Chaplain, Father Jerome Cwiklinski of St. Nicholas Orthodox Christian Church. Senator Hoffman moved and asked unanimous consent that the prayer be spread. Without objection, it was so ordered. Thou only Creator who, with wisdom profound mercifully orderest all things, and givest unto all that which is useful. Give rest, O Lord, to the souls of Thy servants who are fallen asleep. All who have lived and worked in this Great Land; those who died because of the hazards of their occupations, oil workers, pilots, fishermen, rescuers, especially the Master and crew of fishing vessel Evanick; those whose lives were tragically claimed by abuse, neglect, disease or suicide. We pray also for those who defended our shores, especially those who fought in the battles of Dutch Harbor, Attu, Kiska, and the Komodorskiis; the Aleut evacuees, and others displaced by the war, and especially those who perished in relocation camps; the villages which died: Attu, Makushin, Kashega, Biorka. We remember also Native Elders, Pioneers, Statesmen, Territorial and State Governors, our Russian predecessors, explorers and early settlers, the Promishleniki, and our forerunners among the native peoples, the discoverers of this great land, who first populated the North 3535 1998-04-28 Senate Journal Page 3536 American continent; and all those we have in mind who have gone before us, with the Saints grant them rest, O Christ, God, where there is neither sickness, nor sorrow, nor sighing, but life everlasting. May their memories be eternal. CHRIST IS RISEN! Senator Kelly led the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance.
