God of Power, Patience and Understanding: As this legislative session draws toward closure we reflect on the emotional, intellectual and financial energy expended. From all sides there have been strong opinions and diverse reactions that have both torn down and built up each person. Help us to reflect upon what has occurred with an attitude that is open to growth and greater understanding of the diverse needs of our state. May new insights be learned, and may Alaska and its people benefit from the struggles and decisions that have taken place and those yet to come. In the midst of the difficult and often controversial realities of legislative decision-making is the reality of the fragileness of life. Be with each person here in their journey of life. In our lives, and in the lives of our families, are such realities as physical or mental illness, homelessness, chemical dependency, 3453 1998-04-23 Senate Journal Page 3454 death of a loved one, loss of a job, encounter with the law or other transitions that cause concern. Be with all who experience such painful realities, that they might experience Your loving presence and the support of others. May these fragile moments lead to greater sensitivity to the needs of others as we make decisions. We ask Your blessing on these senators gathered here today. May their intellectual abilities and life experience be blended with wisdom, caring, and compassion as they make decisions that affect the lives of all Alaskans. In Your Holy Name, Amen.
