Senator Taylor was excused from a call of the Senate. The prayer was offered by the Chaplain, Pastor Greg Clark of the Glacier Valley Baptist Church. Senator Hoffman moved and asked unanimous consent that the prayer be spread. Without objection, it was so ordered. Our Father Who art in Heaven, hallowed be Your Name. You are the King, eternal, invisible and immortal. Your throne, O Lord, is in the highest heaven and You are exalted above all blessing and praise. We come humbly before You, recognizing our dependency upon Your mercy and grace. Lord, we have done nothing good to merit Your favor, yet You have graciously bestowed upon us every good and perfect gift. We are forever thankful, and pray that we may adjust our lives to Your calling as revealed in Holy Scripture. Thank You Lord for allowing us to be citizens in a free nation, and for giving us the additional blessing of calling Alaska our home. We most humbly intercede for our country, that it may still be favored with the light of Your Gospel. Help us to live righteous lives so that we may receive the blessing that the psalmist declared, For You, O Lord, will bless the righteous; with favor You will surround him with a shield. (Psalms 5:12) Lord, it is Your favor that we desire. 2315 2000-02-16 Senate Journal Page 2316 We most humbly and thankfully intercede for all those for whom it is our duty to pray. Lord, we pray for our governor and ask that You would give him the wisdom to fulfill his arduous duties. Help him to be able to balance his role as governor as well as his role of a father and a husband. We pray for those in this Senate, and ask that You would illuminate their minds so that they may see clearly and be able to discern those things that really matter. Lord we pray that You would strengthen their physical bodies and grant them the rest that they need to carry out their duties. We pray that You would restore those who are sick, and encourage those who are discouraged and disheartened. Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. (Ephesians 3:20-21) Amen. Senator Adams led the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance.
