Senator Pearce was absent. The prayer was offered by the Chaplain, Pastor Leon Thompson of Chapel by the Lake Church. Senator Hoffman moved and asked unanimous consent that the prayer be spread. Without objection, it was so ordered. Dear God; We thank You for this day and for the beauty that surrounds us. May we never take You for granted. May we take moments in this day to look beyond ourselves and see the majestic beauty which You have created. Thank You! Guide the Senate in their work and deliberations this day. When energy seems to be exhausted because of the long hours of study, committee work and debate give renewed strength and courage. When nerve endings seem to be dangling, bring comfort and healing even in the midst of the most sensitive issues. We are continually reminded in the various places we live of the seasons of the year and the changes that come. May the seasons of the year remind us of life; even in the midst of winter struggles new life will break forth and the Sun will bring spring time of the year. In the seasons of fall there is the anticipation of the beauty of winter. May each of us find meaning and beauty in all the seasons and continually give thanks for the challenges of our lives. May we always look for the hope that comes from the undergirding of Your presence. 709 1997-03-13 Senate Journal Page 0710 This day may each of us be reminded of the prayer of serenity. God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; the courage to change the things I can; and the wisdom to know the difference. This prayer we offer to the one who created each of us unique and special. Amen. Senator Taylor led the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance.
