Senator Hoffman was excused from a call of the Senate. Senators Phillips, Parnell were absent due to illness. Senator Sharp was absent. The prayer was offered by the Chaplain, The Reverend Ellen Younker of the Aldersgate United Methodist Church. Senator Duncan moved and asked unanimous consent that the prayer be spread. Without objection, it was so ordered. We beg You, Lord, to help and defend us. Deliver the oppressed, pity the insignificant, raise the fallen, show Yourself to the needy, heal the sick. Bring back those who have gone astray. Feed the hungry, lift up the weak, take off the prisoner's chains, guide those who govern. May every nation come to know that You alone are God, that we are Your people, the sheep that You pasture. Amen. Senator Kelly led the Senate in the pledge of allegiance.
