Senator Lincoln was excused from a call of the Senate. Senators Frank, Leman, Phillips, Rieger, Taylor were absent. The prayer was offered by the Chaplain, Senator Torgerson. Senator Hoffman moved and asked unanimous consent that the prayer be spread. Without objection, it was so ordered. Dear God, we do not really listen to each other, at least not all the time. I talk, my companion talks, but what we are really concentrating on is how good we sound, how to make our points strongly, how to outshine the person with whom we are talking. Teach us to listen as your Son listened to everyone who spoke with him. Remind us that, somehow, You are trying to reach us to be a partner in conversation. Your truth, Your love, Your goodness are seeking us out and the truth, love and goodness are being communicated. When our words are harsh, angry, we convey the very opposite of those qualities. Teach us to be still, O Lord, that we may truly hear our brothers and sisters and, in them, You. We ask in Jesus' name. Amen. Senator Green led the Senate in the pledge of allegiance. The presence of Senators Phillips, Leman was noted. 613 1995-03-15 Senate Journal Page 0614 CERTIFICATION Senator Halford moved and asked unanimous consent that the journal for the fifty-eighth legislative day be approved as certified by the Secretary. Memorandum to President Pearce dated March 14 from Tamara Brandt Cook, Director of Legal Services: Subject: Motion regarding AHFC project Here, once again, is my humble suggestion: I move and ask unanimous consent that the President is hereby directed on behalf of the full Senate to notify the Alaska Housing Finance Authority in writing: (1)that the Senate will not appropriate money to carry out the "AHFC Anchorage Consideration Purchase Agreement" executed between AHFC and the Blomfield Company on November 15, 1994; and 1995-03-15 Senate Journal Page 0616 (2)that the Senate requests AHFC to terminate the purchase agreement immediately, to take all prudent actions to minimize costs associated with termination of the purchase agreement, and to cease all actions related to consolidating its offices.
