Representatives Bunde, Foster and Moses had been previously excused from a call of the House today. Representative B.Davis was excused due to illness. The invocation was offered by the Chaplain, Pastor David Horn of the Faith Lutheran Church. Representative Vezey moved and asked unanimous consent that the invocation be spread on the journal. There being no objection, it appears below: "From George Washington's first inaugural address: `...it would be peculiarly improper to omit, in this first official act, my fervent supplications to the Almighty Being who rules over the universe, who presides in councils of nations and whose providential aids can supply every human defect....No people can be bound to acknowledge and adore the Invisible Hand which conducts the affairs of men more than those of the United States. Every step by which they have advanced to the character of an independent nation seems to have been distinguished by some token of providential agency.' O Almighty God, You are indeed the Invisible Hand that guides all nations. Bless our leaders, we pray, especially those assembled here. Guide and protect them, and give them Your wisdom, that You might rule over this state, preside in the council of this assembly, and supply what we do not have by Your providential aid. 1 1995-02-20 House Journal Page 0416 Comfort all who mourn the loss of a loved one, especially our Roman Catholic neighbors, and all who mourn the passing of Bishop Kenny. We give You thanks for this, Your servant, who gave so much for God and country. We pray that sadness may pass as they might take heart in the hope of a joyous reunion in the life to come, through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen." The House stood for a moment of silent prayer in memory of Bishop Michael Kenny from the Catholic Diocese of Juneau. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Representative Ogan.
