Senators Claman, Tobin were excused from a call of the Senate. Senator Giessel was absent. The prayer was offered by the Chaplain, Pastor Chris Elliot, Radiant Church. Senator Hoffman moved and asked unanimous consent the prayer be spread. Without objection, it was so ordered. O Sovereign Lord, creator and sustainer of all things. I come before You today with much reverence, awed by the sacred charge You’ve placed on those gathered in this chamber. You, O Lord, who painted the auroras across our midnight skies and set the mighty rivers to carve their path, have also called these men and women to lead Alaska with integrity and vision. I humbly ask You to fill them with divine insight, a steady and calm resolve, and an unwavering strength as they shape the future of our state. May their choices echo the harmony of our coastal rains and the steadfastness of our mighty glaciers. May their decisions be rooted in justice and a deep love for every Alaskan, from the Aleutian shores to the Arctic plains. Protect their spirits from the lure of self- importance, their speech from falsehood, and their steps from wandering off Your righteous path. May 2025-05-02 Senate Journal Page 1082 they lead with the quiet humility of the Sitka spruce, standing tall yet bending to serve, as Christ did pouring out His life for others. Let the laws they forge carry the weight of Your truth and reflect the wild beauty of Alaska’s soul. Grant them stamina to press forward in unity for the difficult work ahead. Bless our great state, Heavenly Father, its people, its leaders, its vast tomorrows. May Your glory shine through all they do. I ask these things in the mighty name of Jesus, Amen! Expansion of the forest will help secure long-term investment in the area and will facilitate increased forest management. Under Division of Forestry (DOF) stewardship, timber resources will be sustainably produced, utilized, and replenished, while other public land uses continue. This change provides certainty for investors—and DOF— 2025-05-02 Senate Journal Page 1090 that investments in reforestation, road construction, and other forest activities will be safeguarded and maintained. Additionally, these forest roads will improve public access for recreational activities such as hunting, fishing, berry picking, and tourism. These lands, already classified for forest use in state land management plans for their timber productivity, will now be officially part of the State Forest, reaffirming our commitment to sustainable forest management. I respectfully urge your prompt and favorable consideration of this measure.
