The prayer was offered by the Chaplain, Reverend Gordon Blue, Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. Senator Hoffman moved and asked unanimous consent the prayer be spread. Without objection, it was so ordered. Creator God, foundation of justice and mercy, I thank you for the light of understanding, and the gift of wisdom through the ages. God of the ancients: they knew the importance of good government, in the lives of the people, and the generations to come. Even to this generation: we are beneficiaries of the wisdom of the ages. The Psalmist prayed on behalf of his capitol, and I extend the prayer, Lord, for this Capitol: “Peace be within your walls and quietness within your towers. For my brethren and companions' sake, we pray for our prosperity.” (Ps.122:7,8) Help the Senators of Alaska to complete their work; the work they have been called to do, on the behalf of future generations and of this one: to provide from the increase of the earth and sea; for the protection of the poor and the oppressed, and to provide for the well-being of all your people. 2023-05-10 Senate Journal Page 1026 Direct and guide them, Lord.
