The prayer was offered by the Chaplain, Pastor Eugene Williams, First Baptist Church Juneau. Senator Hoffman moved and asked unanimous consent the prayer be spread. Without objection, it was so ordered. God of all glory, How shall we present ourselves to You this day but in such a way as to plead our total dependence upon You? As Creator, You have established our presence upon this planet. You will sustain our very lives until the day of our last breath. You have provided ample opportunities for everyone in this place to respond to the glorious salvation found in Your Son, Jesus, the Christ. I plead in the name of Jesus this morning that You would grant each of us more opportunities to recognize and to respond to Your will for mankind. Help us today to worship You and not to worship Your creation. Strengthen these Senators today and in the days ahead to accomplish thorough research, to set forth well thought out recommendations and to cast votes that will please and honor You. 2023-04-12 Senate Journal Page 0720 Continue to remind us of our own weaknesses in the light of Your majestic might. And may we never forget that our time on this earth is fleeting. Help us to accomplish the tasks that we have been assigned with a fervor not unlike that exhibited through Elijah on Mount Carmel as You defeated the false prophets. And then help each of us not to be fearful of any threats from others as Elijah was intimidated by Jezebel. Remind us of our Savior’s words in the gospel of Matthew: “Do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell” (10:28). Lord God, the work before us is great and the distractions are many. But You are greater than all. Help us this day. I pray these things this day in the name of Jesus, the one and only living Son of God. Amen. Senator Stedman led the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance. Certification Senator Giessel moved and asked unanimous consent the journal for the eighty-fifth legislative day be approved as certified by the Secretary. Without objection, it was so ordered.
