The invocation was offered by the Chaplain, Representative Ortiz. Representative Vance moved and asked unanimous consent that the invocation be spread on the journal. There being no objection, it was so ordered. I offer this prayer with the greatest respect for the different religious faiths that exist in this building and in our state, and with a great appreciation for the religious freedoms we possess living in this country: Dear Lord, we come before you on this beautiful day here in Southeast Alaska. Lord, many of us come before you with fatigue from the work we did up until early this morning. Give us the strength to work cooperatively today and in the days ahead as we try to find consensus on how to take action in the best interests of all Alaskans, not just those whom are our friends, or those that share the same political beliefs as us. Lord, we – and especially me – come before you as imperfect human beings. Help each of us to remember our own shortcomings first before looking to find perceived shortcomings of those around us. For after all, dear Lord, it was you who said in the Book of Matthew: Judge not, lest 2024-03-21 House Journal Page 1942 you be judged, and later in the book of Matthew, you remind us always: Why do you see the speck in your neighbor's eye, but do not notice the log in your own eye? Or how can you say to your neighbor, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye' while the log is in your own eye? Thank you, dear Lord, for allowing each of us to have the opportunity to serve our fellow Alaskans, help us always to do it with humility and grace and kindness to those around us. And to this we say, Amen. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Representative Carrick. CERTIFICATION OF THE JOURNAL Representative Saddler moved and asked unanimous consent that the journal for the 65th legislative day be approved as certified by the Chief Clerk.
