Representative Rauscher, Acting Majority Leader, moved and asked unanimous consent that Representative Saddler be excused from the call of the House today. There being no objection, it was so ordered. The invocation was offered by the Chaplain, Pastor Dani Cherian of Valley Church. Representative Vance moved and asked unanimous consent that the invocation be spread on the journal. There being no objection, it was so ordered. Let us pray: Dear Lord Jesus, Thank you for this new day and for calling each Representative and their staff here, to accomplish your will today. I ask that you refresh and bless your Representatives and give them energy as they make decisions for Alaska. CERTIFICATION OF THE JOURNAL Representative Rauscher moved and asked unanimous consent that the journal for the 39th, 40th, and 41st legislative days be approved as certified by the Chief Clerk. There being no objection, it was so ordered. * * * * * The Speaker stated that the House would stand at ease to allow members of the Senate to enter the House Chamber; and so, the House stood at ease at 11:08 a.m. JOINT SESSION IN THE HOUSE In accordance with Uniform Rule 51, Speaker Tilton turned the gavel over to President Stevens who called the joint session to order at 11:16 a.m. The purpose of the joint session was to hear an address by the Honorable Mary Sattler Peltola, U.S. Representative. Senator Giessel moved and asked unanimous consent that the roll call of the Senate be waived and all members be shown as present. There being no objection, it was so ordered. President Stevens appointed Representative Stapp and Senator Hoffman to escort the Representative to the joint session. The Senate Sergeant-at-Arms announced the Representative's entrance into the House Chamber. Representative Peltola was escorted to the rostrum. Representative Peltola delivered her address, and it is published in House and Senate Joint Journal Supplement No. 16. A question and answer period followed the conclusion of the Representative's speech. Representative Peltola received a standing ovation and was escorted from the Chamber by Representative Stapp and Senator Hoffman. Senator Giessel moved and asked unanimous consent that the joint session adjourn. There being no objection, President Stevens adjourned the joint session at 11:58 a.m. The Speaker ordered the House at ease to allow members of the Senate to leave the Chamber. Representative Tomaszewski moved and asked unanimous consent to abstain from voting because of a conflict of interest. Objection was heard, and he was required to vote. HCR 4 was referred to the Chief Clerk for enrollment.
