The invocation was offered by the Chaplain, Representative Armstrong. Representative Vance moved and asked unanimous consent that the invocation be spread on the journal. There being no objection, it was so ordered. With the deepest respect for the religious beliefs of all Alaskans, I offer the following prayer: In the spirit of love and justice for all, we remember the words of the Hebrew prophet Isaiah, who spoke these words from God not to individuals, but to the leaders of his nation: "If you do away with the yoke of oppression, with the pointing finger and malicious talk, and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday." Today we prayerfully remember that the sacred texts of all major religions proclaim the golden rule: That we show our love for God by loving our neighbor with acts of love and justice. 2023-05-18 House Journal Page 1168 We are inspired by our religious traditions to love our neighbor with ever-more graciousness, ever-more acceptance, ever-more breadth. Our holy traditions challenge us to love courageously; to love unyieldingly. Let us prayerfully remember that this love for our neighbor is to be lived out not only in our choices as individuals, but also in our shared decisions; And so today, in the spirit of holy, blessed acceptance for all people, we offer this hopeful prayer: In our words, may we courageously live out our sacred duty to love our neighbor. In our actions, may we courageously live out our sacred duty to love our neighbor. And in our votes, may we courageously live out our sacred duty to love our neighbor. We pray these things in the spirit of love and hope, Amen. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Representative Groh.
