It is with the deepest respect for the religious beliefs of all Alaskans, that I invite you and include you in this pause for a time of prayer and reflection. Each of you is welcome to join me: Creator, We praise you for the ever-present love that connects us to one another, a human connection that we share no matter what. We praise you for the faithfulness of that love, when so many of us do not seem to be so faithful. Your abiding love surrounds us even when we do not clearly sense it. Help us to be confident in the wholeness of your provision of our gifts (1 Corinthians 1:7). Comforter, We pray for the chaos in the world. We are unsettled by it. We pray for peace in the wake of tragedies and crises. We 2023-01-23 House Journal Page 0064 pray for the many distresses and aches that we have, some known only by you. Help us to be compassionate to one another. Redeemer, Stir us to find humility (Micah 6:8). May we move to awareness and grow in our knowledge of the cultures that have nurtured and continue to nurture the very land on which we stand. Help us to do that together with confidence and wonder. Divine Presence, Prepare our minds, wills, emotions, and spirits now, and throughout this day. Help us to listen to one another, to model the behavior that we wish to see in our state and our communities. Help us to adopt the posture of peacemakers (Matthew 5:9). Help us to be creative in the work ahead of us. Help us to joyfully partner with each other to seek solutions for the betterment of all those impacted by our decisions. We know what you require of us. We know. To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with you (Micah 6:8). May this be so. Amen. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Representative Carrick.
