Representatives Ortiz and Story had been excused from a call of the House today. Representative Saddler moved and asked unanimous consent that Representative Fields be excused from a call of the House from today to 10:00 a.m., January 23. There being no objection, it was so ordered. The invocation was offered by the Chaplain, Reverend Gordon Blue of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. Representative Vance moved and asked unanimous consent that the invocation be spread on the journal. There being no objection, it was so ordered. In deepest respect for the religious beliefs of each person here, I offer these prayers: Eternal God, Fountain of Wisdom, it has pleased you to provide abundantly for us, prospering many generations from this great land. It has pleased you so to make us that we are many peoples, but of one blood. You have multiplied your people and given us the strength of many cultures. It has pleased you on the historic lands of the Auke Kwaan and the Taku Kwaan to make this place for the council of the 2023-01-20 House Journal Page 0050 people, the Alaska House, a place to practice remembrance, and to promote wisdom. In the Psalms we find an ancient record of public aspirations and praise and complaint; in that appointed for this day, Psalm 31, initial resentment and hateful complaint yields to the product of counsel, and there is the fruit of wisdom: Moving through gratitude, Blessed be the Lord! for he has shown me the wonders of his love in a besieged city. (v.21) To end in patient resolve, Be strong and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for the Lord. (v.24) Lord, rain down your blessings on this body, fill their hearts with gratitude for your abundance, so that none might be oppressed, so that all may contribute to the good of all, so that the people may be blessed, and remember this House as a blessing. Amen. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Representative Carpenter.
