Senators Revak, von Imhof were excused from a call of the Senate. The prayer was offered by the Chaplain, Pastor Tari Stage-Harvey, Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church. Senator Hoffman moved and asked unanimous consent the prayer be spread. Without objection, it was so ordered. I must confess some of my prayers feel really angry - full of frustration and rage at injustice and what sometimes feels like meanness or ignorance. But don’t worry, I only tell those to my dog and God. Today as we gather in prayer, I do not believe it is a magic formula to manipulate the world into how I want it, but an acknowledgement that I am not God and a call to dream as God dreams. So let the anger that seems to pulse through our streets dissolve in grace and be replaced with vision and hope. Prayer does not change God; prayer changes us to love as we are loved. To see enemies as humans, to welcome children, to feed, to heal, and to forgive. 2022-05-05 Senate Journal Page 2532 So I pray. I give thanks for hard and meaningful work and you servants who are willing to do it. Now: Receive a spirit of wisdom Receive a spirit of courage Receive a spirit of humility Be patient and kind. Express your anger to your dog or God, but be gracious to each other. Amen. Senator Gray-Jackson led the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance.
