Senator Birch was excused from a call of the Senate. Senator Stedman was absent. The prayer was offered by the Chaplain, Dani Cherian, Valley Church. Senator Hoffman moved and asked unanimous consent the prayer be spread. Without objection, it was so ordered. Dear Lord Jesus, Thank you for a new day and for calling each Senator and their staff here, to accomplish your plans today. I ask that you would guide them, as they share and decide on the topics of the day. Please bless them with strength and give them harmony as they make decisions for Alaska. It says that, “My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth! He will not let you stumble; the one who watches over you will not slumber.” (Psa. 121:2-3) Give them boldness to seek your help and access to your wisdom, knowledge and understanding, and help these leaders, make good decisions for the great State of Alaska. Senator Shower led the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance. 2019-05-03 Senate Journal Page 1016 Certification Senator Costello moved and asked unanimous consent the journal for the one hundred eighth legislative day be approved as certified by the Secretary. Without objection, it was so ordered. The presence of Senator Stedman was noted. Messages from the House SB 40 Message dated May 2 was read stating the House passed and returned: SENATE BILL NO. 40 "An Act establishing the month of February as Black History Month." The bill was referred to the Secretary for enrollment. Concur Messages SB 78 Message dated May 2 was read stating the House passed and returned for consideration SENATE BILL NO. 78 "An Act establishing May 31 of each year as Katie John Day" with the following amendment: HOUSE CS FOR SENATE BILL NO. 78(TRB) "An Act establishing May 31 of each year as Katie John Day; and providing for an effective date." Senator Costello moved the Senate concur in the House amendment. Senator Begich objected, then withdrew his objection. The question being: "Shall the Senate concur in the House amendment?" Senator Costello moved and asked unanimous consent the vote on concurrence be considered the vote on the effective date clause. Without objection, it was so ordered. The Secretary was requested to notify the House. The bill was referred to the Secretary for enrollment. Consideration of the Calendar Second Reading of Senate Bills SB 71 SENATE BILL NO. 71 "An Act making corrective amendments to the Alaska Statutes as recommended by the revisor of statutes" was read the second time. Senator Costello moved and asked unanimous consent the bill be considered engrossed, advanced to third reading and placed on final passage. Without objection, it was so ordered. SENATE BILL NO. 71 was read the third time. The question being: "Shall SENATE BILL NO. 71 "An Act making corrective amendments to the Alaska Statutes as recommended by the revisor of statutes" pass the Senate?"
