Senator Hoffman was excused from a call of the Senate. The prayer was offered by the Chaplain, Pastor Eugene Williams, First Baptist Church, Juneau, Alaska. Senator Coghill moved and asked unanimous consent the prayer be spread. Without objection, it was so ordered. Lord God almighty, May we be moved in our spirits today by the sheer magnitude of Your Holy Spirit’s power. As carefully ordered and functional as this Senate session will be today, help us to never forget that You are the God of order. Without You, we would have no direction in life. Left to our own devices, we are doomed to failure and utter destruction. As we draw near to Holy Week in the year of our Lord 2019, let us not fail to stay our minds upon the Christ, the Savior of this fallen universe. The Apostle Paul well-knew the humility and the joy to be found in Christ Jesus as he penned the words: complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. 3 Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. 4 Let each of you look not only to 2019-04-08 Senate Journal Page 0752 his own interests, but also to the interests of others. 5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, 6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. 9 Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (Philippians 2:2-11) Lord Jesus, help the collective minds in this room accomplish whatever is before them today and on into this week. And may whatever be accomplished be pleasing in thy sight. I pray these things in the blessed name of Jesus, the true Son of God. Amen. Senator Birch led the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance. Certification Senator Costello moved and asked unanimous consent the journals for the eighty-first through eighty-third legislative days be approved as certified by the Secretary.
