Senator Begich was excused from a call of the Senate. The prayer was offered by the Chaplain, Pastor R. Eugene Williams, First Baptist Church of Juneau, Alaska. Senator Hoffman moved and asked unanimous consent the prayer be spread. Without objection, it was so ordered. Father God, as we stand in Your presence on this day, yet one more day that You have given to us to bring honor and glory to You, let us not be slack in our duties as citizens of the state of Alaska and the United States of America. I concur with the writer of Proverbs as he was so eloquently guided by You to pen these words: Proverbs 2 1 My son, if you receive my words and treasure up my commandments with you, 2 making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to understanding; 3 yes, if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, 4 if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures, 2019-03-11 Senate Journal Page 0506 5 then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. 6 For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding; 7 he stores up sound wisdom for the upright; he is a shield to those who walk in integrity, 8 guarding the paths of justice and watching over the way of his saints. Jesus, would You shed Your grace and mercy upon the great needs of the souls in this room today? Certainly, all present are most grateful for Your provision of the breath of life that so sustains our presence before You in this place today. Holy Spirit, may your activity in the midst of the men and women present today be life-giving, belief-challenging and heart-convicting. I plead with You to strengthen the minds in this place and enable each one of them to process the necessary information needed to provide this great state with strategies germane to the solving of the extremely tough and complex issues before them in this session and beyond. I pray these things this day in the name of Jesus, the one and only living Son of God. Amen. Senator Hoffman led the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance.
