Senator Coghill was excused from a call of the Senate. "The Lord's Prayer" was sung by the Chaplain, Sherry Patterson, Breakthrough Church. Senator Hoffman moved and asked unanimous consent the prayer be spread. Without objection, it was so ordered. Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. Senator Begich led the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance. Senator Costello moved and asked unanimous consent the following citation be made a special order of business. Senator Begich objected, then withdrew his objection. There being no further objection, it was so ordered. Special Order of Business In Memoriam - Edward John Stading Senator Stevens Representative Vance President Giessel stated, without objection, the citation would be adopted. There being no objection, the citation was adopted and referred to the Secretary for transmittal. Unfinished Business Senator von Imhof moved and asked unanimous consent to be excused from a call of the Senate from afternoon plane time, March 1 through evening plane time, March 5. Without objection, Senator von Imhof was excused. President Giessel made the following appointment: Council of State Governments West Canada Relations Committee Senator Olson 2019-02-21 Senate Journal Page 0360 SB 53 Senator Costello moved and asked unanimous consent to be shown as a cosponsor on SENATE BILL NO. 53 "An Act relating to the duties of the Board of Regents of the University of Alaska." Recess Senator Costello moved and asked unanimous consent the Senate stand in recess to the Joint Session. Without objection, the Senate recessed at 10:46 a.m. After Recess Joint Session in the House Speaker Edgmon called the House to order and in accordance with Uniform Rule 51 turned the gavel over to President Giessel, who called the Joint Session to order at 11:01 a.m. The purpose of the Joint Session was to hear an address by the Honorable Dan Sullivan, U.S. Senator. Senator Costello moved and asked unanimous consent the roll call of the Senate be waived and all members be shown as present. Without objection, it was so ordered. Representative Thompson moved and asked unanimous consent the roll call of the House be waived and all members be shown as present. Without objection, it was so ordered. President Giessel appointed Representative Revak and Senator Bishop to escort U.S. Senator Dan Sullivan to the Joint Session. 2019-02-21 Senate Journal Page 0361 The Senate Sergeant-at-Arms, Grace Ellsworth, announced the Honorable Dan Sullivan’s entrance to the House Chamber. The Honorable Dan Sullivan was escorted to the rostrum and welcomed by President Giessel. U.S. Senator Dan Sullivan delivered his address. This address appears in Senate and House Joint Journal Supplement No. 5. Following his address, there was a question and answer period. U.S. Senator Dan Sullivan received a standing ovation and was escorted from the chamber by Senator Bishop and Representative Revak. Senator Costello moved and asked unanimous consent the Joint Session stand in adjournment. Without objection, President Giessel adjourned the Joint Session at 12:04 p.m. After Recess In the Senate The Senate reconvened at 12:07 p.m. Adjournment Senator Costello moved and asked unanimous consent the Senate stand in adjournment until 10:30 a.m., February 22, 2019.
