Senator Hoffman was excused from a call of the Senate. The prayer was offered by the Chaplain, Keith Hamilton, Alaska Christian College. Senator Coghill moved and asked unanimous consent the prayer be spread. Without objection, it was so ordered. Lord, today we gather in this capitol building to ask you to guide and direct the elected folks sitting before each of us. Each of them has been given a great responsibility to uphold the Constitution, to be fair in all matters, and seek what is best for all the citizens of our great state. Their jobs can be hard, stressful, and at times can cause difficulty as they have been chosen for, and have been elected to serve, all of our residents. I pray for Tom, Mia, Chris, Cathy, and Donald today as they will have decisions to make that impact each of us gathered in the gallery or listening by another means. Thanks for the hard work that Lora, Click, John, Elvi, and Lyman and their teams do every day in this building to propel us forward as a State. I am grateful for the powerful leadership of Peter, Shelley, Scott, Jesse, and Bert in their places of influence, and finally for Mike, Gary, Natasha, David and Bill who strive to do all they can to serve all Alaskans. 2019-02-04 Senate Journal Page 0186 I ask for wisdom, discernment, honest evaluation, and purposefully answering questions offered and then making decisions about what is best for their neighbor as they deliberate. Help us to support them and bring peace to the legislative process today, Also Lord, as I have prayed many times before, protect each of our service men and women that come from our great state from harm as they have gone before us, in our places, to protect our country, our values, and our homes. All this I ask in the name of your son Jesus, Amen. Senator Kiehl led the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance.
