Representative Rasmussen had been excused from a call of the House today. Representative Kreiss- Tomkins was absent and his presence was noted later. Representative Stutes, Acting Majority Leader, moved and asked unanimous consent that Representatives Gillis, Neuman, Thompson, and Tarr be excused from the call of the House today. There being no objection, it was so ordered. The invocation was offered by the Chaplain, Representative Stutes. Representative Drummond moved and asked unanimous consent that the invocation be spread on the journal. There being no objection, it was so ordered. With the deepest resect for the religious and spiritual beliefs of all Alaskans, I offer this prayer: Dear Lord, Let us start this prayer with feelings of gratitude for every day that we get to wake up refreshed and blessed with the ability to use that day to make a positive difference for ourselves, our community, and our world. We ask for wisdom and guidance through every important decision. Help us to live each day well, from start to finish. 2020-03-16 House Journal Page 1884 We come to prayer this morning at a time when across the world and across our state people are experiencing worry and fear, some are ill, all are being asked to make tremendous personal sacrifice in the spirit of caring for others. Please fill our hearts with a generosity and patience to face these challenges. Help us find ways to support each other, to keep each other healthy, to care for those in need, and to keep our spirits up as we get through this together. Sometimes difficult times show how deep the strength and generosity of others really is. We saw this during the earthquake when Alaskans came together. We know that stepping up when needed is what makes us Alaskans, and we are being called again to give of ourselves. As we work together to keep ourselves and others healthy, to protect vulnerable Alaskans, to make sure health care gets to those in need, please help us embrace this calling and remind us this is an honor to live in service to others. As the days get longer and the sunshine stretches into the evening, please remind us of the power of time. That in time we will get back things as they were, back to hugs and handshakes, back to church services, concerts, and conferences, and please help us use this time to appreciate new experiences and ways of enjoying our friends, family, and faith. Perhaps this time will remind us just how special each person is in our lives and instead of things going back to how they were before we'll be more likely to prioritize our special people and times, because we were reminded, once again, that it is the people we love that make life special. Amen. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Representative Tilton.
