Representatives Saddler and Tuck had been excused from a call of the House today. Representatives Kito, Kreiss-Tomkins, and Rauscher were absent and their presence was noted later. There was one vacancy. The invocation was offered by the Chaplain, Pastor Tom Matthews of Douglas Island Bible Church. Representative Ortiz moved and asked unanimous consent that the invocation be spread on the journal. There being no objection, it was so ordered. Recognizing the variety of faiths that are represented here today, I do thank you for the opportunity to open this day and your week in prayer: Dear Lord: Thank you that you are attentive to our prayers, and for the grace that you extend to us even when we have done nothing to deserve it. Thank you for the safety on the roads that brought these representatives to come to work this morning. I am mindful of your watchful care over us. 2018-02-26 House Journal Page 2546 This is a hard year for the legislature in this challenging economy. There are so many important decisions that affect so many people. As Solomon understood the need for wisdom to govern his people, I clearly see the need for God- given wisdom and understanding to be given to each of these representatives. In the book of James you tell us, If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. Because of that promise, I ask on behalf of each person here that you would give them the wisdom and understanding necessary for them to govern the people of Alaska in a good path. Thank you that I can lift these representatives before you in prayer. In the name of Jesus Christ, I lift this prayer today. Amen. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Representative Kopp. The Speaker ordered the House at ease to allow members of the Senate to enter the House Chamber. **The presence of Representatives Kreiss-Tomkins and Rauscher was noted.
