With the deepest respect for the religious beliefs of all Alaskans, I offer the following prayer. Creator God, foundation of justice and mercy, we thank you for the light of understanding, and the gift of wisdom through the ages. In the lectionary of daily grace, today we are given your 23rd Psalm, which begins: 2017-04-03 House Journal Page 0822 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; he leads me in the paths of righteousness for his Name's sake. . . For your name's sake, Lord, and for our sake, sustain in these the shepherds of public life, the representatives of Alaska, the light of understanding: you are with them in works of justice and mercy, your wisdom is truth for the ages of ages. Help them to do that work which they have sworn to do on the behalf of future generations and of this one: the protection of the poor and the oppressed, and the provision of well-being for all of your people, so that goodness and mercy shall follow in all of the days of life and we may dwell in peace and security forever. Amen. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Representative Thompson.
