The prayer was offered by the Chaplain, Senator Giessel. Senator Hoffman moved and asked unanimous consent that the prayer be spread. Without objection, it was so ordered. Lord, thank you for this new day. Thank you for Your love for us. You are our creator, our sovereign, our judge. And you also stand ready to be known personally by us and to be our friend. Thank you for this place and time in which You put us and the work You put before us. Thank you for Your ever-present help that is unfailingly available when we acknowledge You and our need for Your help. Lord, we are incomplete without You, and therefore, we all have needs. I know You to be constantly caring and ready with what we need in all times of our lives. Lord, I ask you to be with our colleague from Midtown Anchorage whose father is ill right now. You comfort the broken-hearted, You wipe away every tear. I pray that you would manifest that reality to our colleague today, so that she would know that You, Lord, have Your hand on her father, and her. I pray that she would know how wide, long, high and deep Your love is for her and her father. 2016-04-11 Senate Journal Page 2452 Lord, thank You for the privilege of living in such a wonderful part of Your planet. Lord, You know the dilemma we are facing. We are blessed in this land with wealth but we are a greedy bunch, and have gotten kind of lazy about our monetary wealth. We, as a people, have traded the liberties, talents and energy You have given each of us in exchange for government handouts and services. But that money has run out. That said, Lord, I know Your plan for us is for good and not evil, to give us a hope and a future. Therefore, You have equipped members of this Senate with the knowledge, insight and wisdom needed for this hour and the decisions before us. I pray for each of us and our staff at all levels, that we would fully acknowledge you and call upon You for your help. I pray that our minds would be filled with an understanding of your purpose for this land and our lives. Lord, when You asked Solomon what he most desired, as a new king, Solomon didn't ask for power or wealth. Solomon asked for Your wisdom to make the best decisions for Your people. I ask you, Lord, to give us the same wisdom You gave Solomon. Not for our personal elevation, wealth or self- aggrandizement, but so that we would know and acknowledge Your sovereignty over our lives, our land and the times in which we live. Thank you. Lord, I know You to be faithful, able and willing. I ask all this, in the name above all names, the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen. Senator Micciche led the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance. 2016-04-11 Senate Journal Page 2453 Certification Senator Coghill moved and asked unanimous consent that the journals for the eighty-second and eighty-third legislative days be approved as certified by the Secretary.
