The prayer was offered by the Chaplain, Pastor Tom Matthews, Douglas Island Bible Church. Senator Hoffman moved and asked unanimous consent that the prayer be spread. Without objection, it was so ordered. Dear Lord: In thinking about this prayer today and how I was going to lift these legislators up before You, my mind was brought to the words of Isaac Watts, as he penned the words to a hymn so many years ago: Our God, our help in ages past, our hope for years to come. Our shelter from the stormy blast, and our eternal home. Thank you that You have been our help in ages past. That You have blessed the nation whose God is the Lord…that You have answered the prayers of those who call out to You for help. Today I am calling out to You, for Your help in the stormy blast of challenges that are going to hit these legislators this session. It is a hard job that they have 2016-02-08 Senate Journal Page 1796 to do. I pray that You would help them to represent our state's interests well in the decisions that need to be made. We are told that in Your word (James 3:17), that the "wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere." These legislators are going to need that kind of wisdom God, in the many decisions that need to be made this session. Thank you that You hear my prayer and that I can have confidence in Your work on my behalf. I lift this prayer in the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ... Amen. Senator Costello led the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance. Certification Senator Coghill moved and asked unanimous consent that the journals for the eighteenth through twentieth legislative days be approved as certified by the Secretary.
