The prayer was offered by the Chaplain, Rabbi Dov Gartenberg of the Alaska Shabbat House. Senator Hoffman moved and asked unanimous consent that the prayer be spread. Without objection, it was so ordered. I thank you God for the opportunity for those assembled here who work for a higher purpose, who serve our communities, and our great state. Thank you for the opportunity to take the initiative to improve the lives of the residents of this great and far flung state. Thank you to those who came before us to create institutions and procedures based on equity and fairness to be able to conduct the business of our state in an orderly manner. I share this anonymous prayer to inspire us today about the way we conduct our business. May we keep it in mind as we navigate the controversies and points of disagreement among those assembled here. Words A careless word may kindle strife, A cruel word may wreck a life. A bitter word may hate instill, A brutal word may smite and kill. 2014-02-03 Senate Journal Page 1508 A gracious word may smooth the way, A joyous word may light the day. A timely word may lessen stress, A loving word may heal and bless. May we be mindful of our words today in conducting our business. May our words lead to good decisions and effective deliberations. Senator Ellis led the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance. Certification Senator Coghill moved and asked unanimous consent that the journals for the eleventh through thirteenth legislative days be approved as certified by the Secretary. Without objection, it was so ordered.
