Senators Bishop, Coghill, Fairclough, Olson were excused from a call of the Senate. The prayer was offered by the Chaplain, Richard Dauenhauer of St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church. Senator McGuire moved and asked unanimous consent that the prayer be spread. Without objection, it was so ordered. Our Heavenly Father and Creator of all that exists, we stand before you today as men and women seeking to be instruments of what is good and right for both the people and the creation you have so generously given to us in Alaska. You taught us that "to do justice and judgment [is] more acceptable to you than sacrifice." So we ask and seek your wisdom that our work here is just and our judgments are fair and right for those we serve. We ask that no one be asked to sacrifice more than his or her fair share. Lord, you have told us that "justice, and only justice, should we follow, that we may live and inherit the land that the Lord our God has given to us" to care for and protect and use wisely. We ask that you guide 2014-01-27 Senate Journal Page 1446 our decisions in a way that shows justice on the people and promotes the proper use of the land and resources, so that it will continue to be an inheritance for all the generations to come. Lord, we know that "evil men do not understand justice, but those who seek the Lord understand it completely." Help this body to always seek you in all that they do so that their work will never be seen as evil and that you will let justice and truth show forth in all their works. These and all good things I ask, in the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Senator Dunleavy led the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance. Certification Senator McGuire, Acting Majority Leader, moved and asked unanimous consent that the journals for the fourth through sixth legislative days be approved as certified by the Secretary.
