Senator Meyer was excused from a call of the Senate. Senator McGuire was absent. The prayer was offered by the Chaplain, Bishop J.R. Blackshear of Life Church, Anchorage. Lord, I sincerely ask you today to bless this assemblage of men and women that have been chosen by my fellow Alaskans to conduct the business of our most wonderful state in a manner that would be pleasing to you. As a long-term Alaskan resident of over 50 years, I personally appreciate their commitment to the responsibilities before them; that being the task of making wise decisions that would benefit the residents of the most blessed state of the United States of America. Lord, I realize that there are differences of opinion on many of the issues before them. I do not attempt to judge these opinions, but upon their behalf, I humbly ask you to guide their minds, as well as their spirits, as they conscientiously use the weight of their influence, as well as their votes, in attempting to reach understandings and agreements that will enhance our most blessed state. My children, my grandchildren and the thousands of citizens of our state that have elected them to represent them, are relying upon them to make wise decisions as they consider the weighty matters before them. 2013-02-04 Senate Journal Page 0192 Bless them Lord, with wisdom and a cooperative spirit, is my earnest request; and I sincerely thank you, as well as those responsible for allowing me to be here today and offer this prayer unto you on behalf of this august body of duly elected officials. May your blessings continue to be upon our state and our elected officials as they conduct the important business that is before them. This is my prayer and earnest desire. In Jesus' name.
