Pursuant to adjournment the Senate was called to order by President                                                             
Stevens at 1:01 p.m.                                                                                                            
                                                                                                                                
The roll showed eighteen members present. Senators Kookesh,                                                                     
McGuire were absent.                                                                                                            
                                                                                                                                
The prayer was offered by the Chaplain, Senator Coghill. Senator                                                                
Hoffman moved and asked unanimous consent that the prayer be                                                                    
spread. Without objection, it was so ordered.                                                                                   
                                                                                                                                
          Dear Lord God our heavenly Father, who has given                                                                      
          us life:                                                                                                              
                                                                                                                                
          I am grateful for the gift of love, when you sent your                                                                
          Son to give me everlasting life. I thank you for                                                                      
          delivering me from sin and death through your                                                                         
          sacrifice and resurrection from the dead. We have                                                                     
          been blessed to live in this beautiful state and we are                                                               
          grateful to serve our people. We need ears to hear;                                                                   
          from you, our people and each other, so please help                                                                   
          us with our understanding. We often ask for wisdom                                                                    
          from above, and we come again for wise guidance,                                                                      
          and with that help we also request grace to work that                                                                 
          wisdom with a degree of humility.                                                                                     
                                                                                                                                
          We are often called upon to take strong positions; we                                                                 
          desire to do these things with the proper respect for                                                                 
           our  fellow Alaskans,  so we  look to  you for  help  in

          working compassion in our hearts while debating the                                                                   
          issues. We want to express our gratitude for the                                                                      
          people who trust us to do the best we can for our                                                                     
          homes, our areas, and state. I thank you for the men                                                                  
          and women in this chamber that I have the privilege                                                                   
          to work with. Please help our families and remind us                                                                  
          to be mindful of their needs. We now ask for your                                                                     
          guidance as we consider the work of the day. I pray
