Senator Ellis was excused from a call of the Senate. Senator McGuire was absent. The prayer was offered by the Chaplain, The Reverend Dr. Douglas Dye of Chapel by the Lake. Senator Hoffman moved and asked unanimous consent that the prayer be spread. Without objection, it was so ordered. We give you thanks, dear Lord, for the gift and the blessings of this day. We give you thanks for our home state - Alaska, and the stunning beauty of this magnificent land. As the Psalmist declared, "the heavens declare the glory of God, the skies proclaim the work of God's hands." (Ps 19:1) Indeed, loving God, we see your creative handiwork all around us - in the soaring mountains, the abundant sea - rich in life, the forests, and the tundra. Oh God, grant us the ability to see your faithful presence in the land and seas that surround us. Dear Lord, I thank you for these dedicated men and women, servants who you have called through the voice of the people to work for the good of Alaska. Help them to make wise and righteous decisions. Day after day they face many challenges. Grant them 2011-02-25 Senate Journal Page 0374 strength of mind and body so they can serve well. Guard their health. Give them wisdom and insight into the issues of the day. Enable them to work compassionately and wisely together so they can achieve the best outcomes for all our communities and state. Protect and watch over their families as they are separated from them for much of this legislative session. Bless their spouses, their children, and all those who support and love them. So dear God, help us to recognize your loving presence and fill us with a spirit of thankfulness as we serve this great state of Alaska. Thank you for calling us to this place. Make us grateful for the profound gift of life that you have given us today. I humbly pray in the name of Jesus. Amen. Senator Wielechowski led the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance.
