Senator Huggins was excused from a call of the Senate. Senator McGuire was absent. The prayer was offered by the Chaplain, The Reverend Dr. Douglas Dye of Chapel by the Lake. Senator Hoffman moved and asked unanimous consent that the prayer be spread. Without objection, it was so ordered. Gracious God, we give you thanks for the blessing of this new day. As we come before you, help us remember the words of the Psalmist when he lifted his voice in praise to you. "Praise the Lord!", the Psalmist declared. "O give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; for his steadfast love endures forever . . . [and] happy are those who observe justice, who do righteousness at all times." (Psalm 105: 1, 3) Oh God grant us the desire to praise you for the gift of life and the unrepeatable blessings of this day. Fill us with joy that we might live this day to its fullest. Guide our thoughts - our words - our actions, that we might share your love and truth with those with whom we work and with those we serve. Make us aware that you are good to us, and your love for us is always present in our lives. 2011-02-23 Senate Journal Page 0336 And as the Psalmist sang of justice and righteousness - help us to observe justice and to live rightly so that we experience the happiness you promise. We pray this not only for ourselves, but for the people of our districts and state. We admit that the complexities of good governance, with all its competing demands and concerns, make it difficult to follow the way of truth. We need your help and wisdom. So enable us dear Lord to live and act in such a way on this day, that we will honor you. Bless these Senators so our great state will know joy and happiness. These things I humbly pray in the name of Jesus. Amen. Senator Coghill led the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance. Certification Senator Meyer moved and asked unanimous consent that the journals for the thirty-fifth and thirty-sixth legislative days, Senate Journal Supplement No. 1 and House and Senate Joint Journal Supplement No. 2 be approved as certified by the Secretary.
