Representatives Dick and Foster had been excused from a call of the House today. Representatives Edgmon and Hawker were absent and their presence was noted later. The invocation was offered by the Chaplain, Kayla Epstein of Congregation Sukkat Shalom. Representative P. Wilson moved and asked unanimous consent that the invocation be spread on the journal. There being no objection, it was so ordered. In deepest respect for the religious beliefs of each person here, I invite you into a time of prayer and reflection. Let us pray. In the Bible it says that on the sixth day God created humans and on the seventh he rested. Jewish tradition interprets this to mean that God didn't complete the work . . . only that he rested. His last creation, us, is meant to complete what was started. We are to take on the tasks left and to heal the world. Creator of Peace, we ask you to bless these people in this room and in this building, and all people, who take on the tasks of hunger, strife, sickness, fear, despair, or whatever path they choose to make this world better. We wait for that day when all is complete and the world is at peace. Bless our land with plenty and our nation with peace. May 2012-03-15 House Journal Page 1874 righteousness abide with us and virtue bring us happiness. Blessed is the Eternal, who harkens to prayers. Amen. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Representative Lynn.
