Senators Meyer, Stedman were absent. The prayer was offered by the Chaplain, The Reverend Murray Richmond. Senator Coghill moved and asked unanimous consent that the prayer be spread. Without objection, it was so ordered. Holy and Eternal God, it must be great to be you, to get what you want - when you want it - how you want it. But it does not work that way down here. We have to deal with the hurly burly of deal making and compromise, not just in this body, but in almost all aspects of our lives. We are about done with our work here, Lord. One more day, we hope. Some of us got most of what we wanted. Some of us didn't. That's politics, Lord. It's not always a pretty process down here, but maybe it is not supposed to be. Unless you give up your job, we have to roll up our sleeves and work with each other. And frankly, none of us would be very good at what you do. We need one another, even if we don't agree with one another, and even if we don't always like one another. But you put us down here to work it all out. And we thank you for that, because that is what makes being human interesting. 2010-04-18 Senate Journal Page 2460 So here we are Lord, in all our grandeur and all our ludicrousness. It might sound presumptive to ask you to bless our work, but then, that is what you put us here to do. It's not like we are claiming that it is YOUR work. You still have your job. But we know you do care about our job. So we do ask you to bless it, and help us deal with the implications good or bad of what we have done these last 89 days as we go home. Where we messed up, give us the wisdom to come back and fix it. And where we did well, help us to do it again. "Wipe the furrows from our brow; Smooth the lines from our face; Lift the load from our heart, And remove the fear from our soul as we leave in His peace." Amen. Senator Thomas led the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance. Certification Senator Ellis moved and asked unanimous consent that the journal for the eighty-ninth legislative day be approved as certified by the Secretary. Without objection, it was so ordered.
