Senators Huggins, Olson were excused from a call of the Senate. Senators Bunde, Dyson, Hoffman, McGuire, Menard, Wagoner were absent. The prayer was offered by the Chaplain, Mariya Lovischuk of the Congregation Sukkat Shalom. Senator Ellis moved and asked unanimous consent that the prayer be spread. Without objection, it was so ordered. Eternal Source of knowledge, you have endowed us with reason and understanding. We pray now for the light of your truth, for insight into your ways, and for the strength to know and to do what is necessary and right. Forgive our sins, pardon our failings, and help us to remove suffering and sorrow from our midst. Please help us to forgive ourselves and to forgive others. May those who have lost their way come again to know your love and turn to you in newness of heart; and let those who love goodness and do justly rejoice in the knowledge of your favor. Recess Senator Ellis moved and asked unanimous consent that the Senate stand in recess to the Joint Session. Without objection, the Senate recessed at 10:57 a.m. After Recess Joint Session in the House Speaker Chenault called the House to order and in accordance with Uniform Rule 51 turned the gavel over to President Stevens, who called the Joint Session to order at 11:03 a.m. The purpose of the Joint Session was to hear an address by the Honorable Lisa Murkowski, U.S. Senator. Senator Ellis moved and asked unanimous consent that the roll call of the Senate be waived and all members be shown as present. Without objection, it was so ordered. Representative Johansen moved and asked unanimous consent that the roll call of the House be waived and all members be shown as present. Without objection, it was so ordered. President Stevens appointed Representative Herron and Senator McGuire to escort Senator Lisa Murkowski to the Joint Session. The Senate Sergeant at Arms, Emily Peyton, announced Senator Murkowski's entrance to the House Chamber. The Honorable Senator Murkowski was escorted to the rostrum and welcomed by President Stevens. 2010-02-18 Senate Journal Page 1572 Senator Lisa Murkowski delivered her address. This address appears in House and Senate Joint Journal Supplement No. 13. Following her address, there was a question and answer period. Senator Murkowski received a standing ovation and was escorted from the chamber by Senator McGuire and Representative Herron. Senator Ellis moved and asked unanimous consent that the Joint Session stand in adjournment.
