When the darkness and storms are turning to sunlight and new growth; When the despair of the death of your son has turned to the triumph of the Resurrection; When the near hopelessness of the prospects for brave Captain Phillips has turned to deliverance because of a courageous decision by our President and the skill of our military personnel. We are grateful! We pray for our country and our state. We ask for your blessings on our leaders and the service men and women who protect us. We think particularly of our President and Governor and their families. 2009-04-13 Senate Journal Page 0916 For ourselves we ask for: Maturity and wisdom to be men and women of principle instead of partisanship and pride; Courage to stand up against the pressure of our personal feelings and the tide of the herd; Strength to be servants of our constituents and our oath; The perception to see ourselves as wounded pilgrims on a long journey to a better place, burdened by old wounds and dragging the old baggage of past mistakes. Finally, Lord, we ask for mercy, compassion and love for our perceived enemies and the needy amongst us. In Jesus' Name, Amen. Senator Huggins led the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance.
