Great Spirit, Source of All Being, There are many names we use to call upon you and none adequate to truly name you. Help us to come with open minds, open hearts and open ears as we serve your people and all your creation with our leadership. Open our ears that we may truly listen to one another with respect and hear both the words and the higher intentions. Open our hearts that we may come with integrity and humility -- with an honest accounting of our shortcomings and our strengths. 2009-03-16 Senate Journal Page 0542 Settle the stormy waters of old conflicts that our old emotions do not keep us from hearing each voice speaking in this moment. Open our minds that we may think clearly about our responsibilities, remembering those whom we serve and discerning how best to care for all your creation. You have given us gifts for service and leadership. May we remember that those two always go hand-in- hand. Help us to remember all of those who have placed their trust in us - who we represent and serve. Remind us of their wisdom and their service for our true power is found in serving them. Help us to remember that we are in leadership to care for those in need and continually show us how all of us are family -all of us your children. Remind us that . we are connected even when we do not fully see or understand those connections. Help us to remember that we are stewards of all creation and called to care for the precious gifts that you place in our care. Remind us they are always yours, only ours to tend. Into your hands, we commend our work and service. Amen. Senator Hoffman led the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance.
