Representatives Harris, Hawker, Holmes, and Seaton had been previously excused from a call of the House today. Representative Foster was absent. Representative Johansen moved and asked unanimous consent that Representative Kerttula be excused from a call of the House from today to 11:00 a.m., plane time, February 11. There being no objection, it was so ordered. The invocation was offered by the Chaplain, the Reverend Kenneth Chadwick of Glacier Valley Baptist Church. Representative Dahlstrom moved and asked unanimous consent that the invocation be spread on the journal. There being no objection, it was so ordered. O God, my God, how excellent is your name in all the earth. I praise you for the blessing that comes from your bountiful hand. Thank you for each representative who serves in this place. Thank you for their families who love and support them. Thank you for the wisdom that you have given to each one of them. I pray that you will give to each an understanding of what they need to be doing in order to represent their constituency with honesty and integrity. I ask that you give each one a heart for the work they are involved in doing, so that they will not only do the work but receive joy in the 2009-02-09 House Journal Page 0196 doing of it. I pray that you will give them wisdom in dealing with the issues that they face this day. Help them to seek the good of those they represent and not just seek an easy path. Help them make the right decisions even if the decision is not popular. When they have to choose between being politically correct or doing the right thing, help them to choose to do the right thing. I pray for President Obama and his family. Keep them safe from harm and guide them in the carrying out of their responsibility. I pray for the governor of our state and her family. Help her as she works with this body to work for the greater good of the state of Alaska. I pray for the people of our state and nation who have lost their jobs due to the down turning of our economy. I pray that they will find work soon. Even while they are out of work, I ask that you provide the necessities of life to each one of them. Help those who have the material blessing of life share with others. May we realize that we have received in order to give. Give to each of us this day our daily bread and help us not to go down the road of selfish indulgence just to satisfy any selfish desire we may have. Guide each of us this day to live up to the trust that others have placed in us. Thank you that you are a God who hears prayer. I ask all these petitions in the name of Jesus, my Savior and my Lord. Amen. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Representative Cissna.
