Representatives Harris and Seaton had been excused from a call of the House today. Representatives Foster and Johnson were absent and their presence was noted later. The invocation was offered by the Chaplain, the Reverend Jesse Perry of Northern Light United Church. From our diverse backgrounds, communities, and spiritual paths, may we come together in a spirit of prayer: Eternal God, with thanksgiving for all you have made and all we enjoy, we seek your blessings this day. We ask for wisdom to serve well the peoples and places of Alaska. We ask for courage to sacrifice self-interest whenever pursuing such interest fails to safeguard the interests of all. We ask for truth to heal all divisions and for hearts of mercy to prepare the way. We ask for the knowledge to honor our diversity and for every voice to celebrate the voices of all. Inspire, O God, these our leaders with a vision that calls forth their best gifts and that challenges all who have a stake in this great land to serve one another with humility, integrity, and deep joy. Amen. 2009-02-02 House Journal Page 0134 The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Representative Doogan.
