With respect for the various beliefs represented here, I would ask you to join me in this opening prayer for today's session. Lord, I thank you for the opportunity to come and offer a prayer for this assembly of legislators today. Thank you for each person who is here: Men and women who have been entrusted by their districts to represent them in the affairs of this state. I pray as they have various bills and information passed in front of them that you would grant the representatives wisdom beyond themselves. I ask you to enable them to evaluate and assess each piece of legislation fairly and justly. 2009-01-26 House Journal Page 0080 I want to lift up those in authority over us Lord. I bring before you our governor. I ask for your wisdom and guidance in her life as well. And for our new president, Lord, I pray that you would help him to lead us in the right paths as a nation. He has a hard road ahead of him and will need your help and your leading to turn our nation from some of the difficulties we find ourselves in. God of our fathers, may we be a nation who calls on you for help in our time of need. Remind us of our roots, of our heritage, that we are "one nation under God." The Psalmist says it so clearly in Psalms 33:12: Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord. I ask for your blessing then in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.
