Senator Olson was excused from a call of the Senate. The prayer was offered by the Chaplain, The Reverend George Silides of the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. Senator Hoffman moved and asked unanimous consent that the prayer be spread. Without objection, it was so ordered. With deepest respect for the religious traditions of all Alaskans, I offer this prayer: Almighty, good, gracious and giving God, we thank you for this new day and for every challenge and opportunity it affords. A blessing upon this House we pray, of wisdom in decision-making, charity towards those whose ideas contest and shape our own, and a love of justice tempered by compassion. May it be, by your grace and the courage of those assembled here, that the poor are blessed to be remembered here, the unemployed, the children, the elderly, and those without power or means to make their voices heard. May this House prove its own strength by its care of those who are weak. We remember the families of these our public servants, who have given them to us for a time. May their absence from their loved ones and home not be a hardship or a burden. Bless the 2007-01-22 Senate Journal Page 0074 work of those who support each one gathered here, that they too, may understand the value of their work, and be honored with respect and dignity by those who have authority over them. May the beauty of this land be reflected by a same beauty in our thoughts, our speech, our ways. Amen. Senator Stedman led the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance.
