Representatives Berkowitz, Chenault, Croft, Kelly, and Kerttula were absent and their presence was noted later. Representative Coghill moved and asked unanimous consent that Representative Salmon be excused from a call of the House from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., today. There being no objection, it was so ordered. The invocation was offered by the Chaplain, Representative Kott. Representative McGuire moved and asked unanimous consent that the invocation be spread on the journal. There being no objection, it was so ordered. With respect to all faiths, I ask that we join together. We ask that we be blessed with patience, empathy, and respectfulness. In these final days of the session times can be difficult, and we need to remember that in the end we still want to be friends and do what is best for all Alaskans. We may need gentle and not so gentle reminders to be at the top of our game. We ask that You help us remember that the jerk who cut us off in traffic on the Egan Highway last night may be a single mother 2006-05-03 House Journal Page 3516 who already worked nine hours that day and was rushing home to make spaghetti, help with homework, get to a Cub Scout meeting, do the pile of laundry, and spend a few quality moments with her children. We ask that You remind us that the insalubrious character begging for money in front of the Triangle may be a slave to addictions that we can only imagine in our worst nightmares. We ask that You remind us each day that of all the gifts You give us, the greatest gift is love. And remind us that it is not enough to share that love with those we hold dear, but that we need to open our hearts to all of humanity and celebrate those who are different than us. Remind us to be slow to judge and quick to forgive. We know it is easy to find fault and harder to repair the damage of what we have done and even more difficult to reach across the aisle when our ego and stubbornness want to keep us in our own chair holding tight to our own beliefs. Let us ease the tension of our nerves with the soothing music of the singing Alaskan streams or the lively music of karaoke that live in our own special memories along with the essential support of our families, friends, and constituents. And again, please bless us with patience, empathy, and respectfulness. I ask that we be at peace with our God, however each of us conceives Him or Her to be. And I ask that with all the obvious pretense, drudgery, and broken dreams that we still can see that it is a beautiful world. And I ask that we work together to keep it that way. And all God's people say, Amen. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Representative Seaton. 2006-05-03 House Journal Page 3517 CERTIFICATION OF THE JOURNAL Representative Coghill moved and asked unanimous consent that the journal for the 114th legislative day be approved as certified by the Chief Clerk.
