Senator Austerman was excused from a call of the Senate. Senator Ward was absent. Senator Leman moved and asked unanimous consent that Senator Ward be shown as excused through March 26. God of compassion, we gather today in the sad knowledge that there are, among the people of our state, some who practice intolerance of others on the basis of race, language, or way of life. We pray for peace and understanding among Your people. Let understanding put an end to strife; hatred be quenched by mercy, and vengeance give way to forgiveness. May the members of this Alaska State Senate be leaders in creating a society in which each and every person is cherished and valued. Finally, Lord, we ask You to be with Senator Ward, his wife Margaret and all his family as they mourn the death of his father, Jack Ward. We pray You, gracious God. Amen. 2001-03-22 Senate Journal Page 0768 Senator Phillips led the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance.
