Senators Cowdery, Olson were excused from a call of the Senate. The prayer was offered by the Chaplain, Pastor Larry Rorem of the Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church. Senator Hoffman moved and asked unanimous consent that the prayer be spread. Without objection, it was so ordered. In deepest respect for the religious beliefs of each person here, I invite you into a time of prayer and reflection. Let us pray. Just and merciful God, we gather in prayer for these senators who seek to create a climate of well being for all the people of our great state. In a world filled with so much division, help these leaders be unified in seeking what is best for the weak and the strong who call Alaska home. May creativity flow in this place as senators listen to needs and respond to them in ways that dignify all people. May the fragile realities of power be used as an equalizing force for the good of all. Legitimate differences do exist. Help these differences to challenge this Senate to find creative, dignifying and visionary ways to deal with complex issues. May all Alaskans be empowered by the realities of power. 2001-02-12 Senate Journal Page 0340 Bless each member of this Senate as they seek to represent the people of Alaska to the best of their ability.
