Senators Elton, Hoffman, Therriault were excused from a call of the Senate. Senator Kelly was absent. The prayer was offered by the Chaplain, Pastor Greg Clark of the Glacier Valley Baptist Church. Senator Cowdery moved and asked unanimous consent that the prayer be spread. Without objection, it was so ordered. Eternal God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, we thank You for the light of this day, and for the divine privilege and honor of being able to call upon Your Name. We come before You in humbleness, asking that You would show mercy toward us this day. We thank You for the blessing of living in this nation, and for the privilege of serving our fellow man. I pray that You will help us not to neglect the great advantages that we possess in this nation, and that we will consider our days and redeem the time. I pray for the senators of our great state, and ask that You would give them wisdom for the tasks at hand. We know, O Lord, that this is not an easy position that they have been called to fill. So we ask for insight, clarity of thought, and cooperative efforts as they seek to bring resolution to various issues. You have said in Your Word, "Where there is no counsel, the people fall; But in the multitude of counselors there is safety." (Prov. 11:14) 2001-01-29 Senate Journal Page 0200 I pray for their families in their absence, and that You will help them to balance their roles as parents, spouses, and public servants. Extend Your blessing to this body today. Strengthen them in the midst of difficulty and trial. Comfort them with the presence of Your love, and at the end of this day, may we be able to look back and say that we have done what is good in Your sight. I ask this prayer O Lord for the sake of Jesus Christ, our only mediator and redeemer. Amen. Senator Green led the Senate in the Pledge of Allegiance.
