Senator Ellis was absent. The prayer was offered by the Chaplain, Senator Leman. Senator Hoffman moved and asked unanimous consent that the prayer be spread. Without objection, it was so ordered. Senator Leman read from the Book of Isaiah in honor of the Easter Season. He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering. Like one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered him stricken by God, smitten by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed. We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all. (Isaiah 53:3-6) Thank You, dear God, for Easter. Thank You for the hope that is ours through Your Son and His resurrection. We ask for Your comfort for those who are hurting and in need. Especially we remember the Richard, Macaulay and Garness families. Give them strength to deal with their losses. 3391 2000-04-21 Senate Journal Page 3392 For those of us who are traveling this weekend to be with our families, we ask for safety. In Jesus Name. Amen.
